Can Superman Save Metropolis

Super Heroes of Sailing?

The Bat Cave has always been a place of mystery and secrets, located just outside a thriving metropolis and owned by a mysterious billionaire that fights to uphold the peace and stands for justice.  This vigilante scenario has been used to describe our own hometown hero, self-made Larry Ellison and his sidekick, Russell Coutts (Batman and Robin.)

The Cave would be Pier 80, home to Oracle Team USA.   This week the justice league was shaken when Oracle Team USA was found guilty of defaming their own America’s Cup and World Series.

A self-imposed rule, the Dalton Rule, took our Superheroes, and the city and great country they are supposed to be protecting, to task down a dark path of deception and on a villainous crime spree.  

But unlike in the comics where these characters live and their deeds pose no harm to others ,our dynamic duo have in fact scared the city, the country and sailing, not to mention the oldest trophy in sports history.

The Alfred Theory

In the cartoon, Batman and Robin have a butler named Alfred, an all-knowing caretaker that keeps them fed and in clean leotards and capes.   But in real-life this character has taken on a new role as the fall guy, in the way of namely Dirk de Ridder and other Unnamed Sailors on the Oracle Team or Bat Cave enclave.  These  conspirators supposedly altered no less than three boats with added weight on the one-design AC45 boats that are built sold and leased by none other than Batman's other day job, the America’s Cup Authority, owned by Ellison and many other villains in this plot.

The Dark Knights

One of sailing's most revered sailors, Sir Ben Ainslie, has had his own coat of arms or super heroes cape tarnished by the action of the dynamic duo when the same above criminals of the night altered his AC45 that was leased or sold to him, as well as a Major Banking Sponsor, Chase.  Unbeknown to Sir Ben and his sailing team , BAR Racing, and even another superpower that of England were instantly made by way of guilt by association  party to these charades.

The Riddler

Tom Ehman, known to many as the most powerful tongue-twisting spin doctor in pro sailing circles and even Formula One once, has had to resurrect the great PT Barnum at times and even channel  the powers of Donald Trump, has like in the Comics with his villainous ways spun this affair and many other glorious capers of ACA and its Dark Knights of Ellison and Coutts into an endless crime wave of doubt mistruths and cover stories to an almost new high even the Riddler would be impressed with, at times even suggesting the most powerful of all media Murdoch's ways of suppressing the media and the face of the America's Cup and US Sailing.

Forever!

The Joker

Stephen Barclay like the Joker wears a mask of two faces behind his cold hearted persona.  Barclay has diffused just about every TV deal put on the table as well as corporate sponsorships and attempts to be the top Villain in this Metropolis of Greed and Money and interests have fallen way short of every goal this ACA team has tried, promised or achieved.  Included are media blackouts of events, live coverage tape delays, NBC Network confusions and his decisions to make races and events almost impossible to find on any programming guide.  The Joker’s ultimate goal is to loot the coffers of broadcast TV across the globe have also met with great demise.  The Corporate Joker also single-handedly lost global outreach goals and venues at every turn. Joining forces with the Riddler at times backfired and turned the Artemis affair almost into a game-changing, event-stopping first  and probably the single biggest reason Louis Vuitton will not be returning.

The Commissioner

Like in the comics, the Dark Knights (or Batman and Robin/Ellison and Coutts ) have Commissioner Gordon or in this case Iain Murray who has tried never the less the antics of these villains strives to keep the Cup , sailing and the future of sailing virgin of these comic book villains or in this case real life crime spree under raps and in check.  A man of great integrity and respect, he has had to endure these endless misguided conditions, rule changing,  boat altering and venue crippling , self-destructing implosions.

Not unlike the comic book character Iain The Commissioner Murray  has to dispatch his own form of justice against the  powers to be in a endless daily attack of his office and will to keep sailing and the Cup free from these villains.  The Big Fella is a stand-up guy .

Superman Returns

James Spithill, the face of Oracle Team USA and this America's Cup defense, has had his share of Kryptonite thrown at him and now has been given the task of polishing the Cup again with his superpowers of sailing honesty and sportsmanship.   Using his cape to fly this America's Cup back on track and perhaps save the city, the country, sailing and the world from the powers to be and the now darkened Bat Cave he calls home.  Jimmy’s new Justice League of Eleven have begun their flight and will begin their crime fighting this Saturday when the America’s Cup Finals begin, televised live on primetime TV and hoping to fill the city's coffers with extreme sailing’s cash.

Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze, Grant Dalton CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand, for the first time has not had to plan, scheme or unleash his merry men of evil.   In fact, Mr. Freeze has now won the hearts of a city and for the first time in America's Cup history has more fans in the defending country.  Mr. Freeze has sat back happily on ice in his enclave at Pier 30 laughing at a horrendous roar every day, watching the Dark Knights self-destruct without ever having to deploy his Ice rays or propaganda machine.
