Alameda Kids Play, Dine and Whine!

Play and dine with kidlets in Alameda!

Want to change up your daily routine a little bit? I'm going to "research" (ie, chase my babies around) the Island's playgrounds and deli/cafes. Then, using my expert eating and playing skills, I will relay to you anything that passes my "this is awesome!" test.

Why not begin with something that I know and love?

The "Choo Choo Train Park" aka . This nearly completely fenced in playground is located at 520 Lincoln Avenue. If you hit up the , this park is a fantastic place to skip on over to before or after you shop.

I won't go into great detail, but there is green grass, a ridiculously fun play structure, swings, climbing things and of course, Thomas-the-metal-frame-Choo-Choo-Train! As my kids say, "Dis is awesome!!"

Two blocks from the park, nestled in amongst the neighbourhood houses at 475 Santa Clara Avenue is which is a little piece of heaven (if, for you, heaven includes amazing sandwiches). It's an Italian deli/market that sells mouth-watering sandwiches which they fill with Boars Head meats and a wonderful variety of cheeses. The breads are all fresh and delectable. Best of all, for $5, you get a huge kid friendly sandwich of your choice (or, actually, your kid's choice!). There are also plenty of drinks and snacks to supplement your picnic, as well as lovely owners who know how to make my kiddos smile.

They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until the bread runs out (always way past kiddie lunch time).

Santoro's doesn't have seating, but this works perfectly for us child-minding types! Grab the sandwich to go, and eat it at the park's picnic tables or spread out a blanket on the grass right beside the playground. (The larger field is great for running around on, but you may find the odd doggie deposit).

So there you are. Round Number One of Alameda Kid's Play, Dine and Whine! I didn't want to add the "Whine" at the end, but let's face it, it's gonna happen at some point so it needed to be there.

Do you have the perfect kid friendly playerie and eatery to add to the list?  If so, please let us know!

Bon Appetit!

I wish my kidlets weren't already 17 and 15! Picnics like you described are SO fun!
