Doorway Puppet Theater!

An easy to make (no really, it is!) doorway puppet theater is a sure way to add lots of fun to your family's day.

Hello parents and caregivers!

Who doesn't like a good, old fashioned puppet show? (well, my son, actually...) but anyway....

There's got to be at least one person in your family who would benefit from a doorway puppet theater (even if it's just you)! I saw this online and couldn't rest until I had made one myself.

I purchased all of the materials at including wooden dowels, fabric, some embelishments, thread and fabric glue.

There's one thing I need to make clear: I CAN'T SEW. Yet somehow a puppet theater happened in my craft area which means that it really can't be difficult.

For me, the worst part of it was following "Sewing Machine Basics", "Winding the Bobbin 101" and the ever insulting "Threading a Sewing Machine for Dummies" tutorials on YouTube.  How long did I try to thread the needle back to front before I rewound the video and realized that she said "front to back" you ask?  Maybe for about 10 minutes, but that's besides the point. (Oh my! There was a pun in there!)

Silliness aside, I set to work and two hours later, we (my husband and I...the kids were fast asleep) were putting on puppet shows good enough to rival those seen at Fairyland (if I do say so myself).

I am sure that you can follow from the picture, but here's a little step-by-step:

1. Cut out fabric. I just did a bit of measuring and tried out a few different ideas before I settled on this one and began snipping away.

2. Sew it. Fold the fabric over to create a sleeve to put the dowels through.  Insert wooden dowels at two points: one right under the puppet stage and the other right at the top. (see photos)

3.  Add fun!  I added a pom pom fringe to mine using fabric glue.

4.  Hide any little mistakes using aforementioned fabric glue.

5.  Attach a ribbon to the top dowel, put a nail in the top middle of your doorway and hang 'er up!

6.  Sit and stare at it for ages. Take photos from every angle. Email photos to your mother.  Listen as your loved ones tell you how clever you are and say things like, "Awww, no, it was nothing.  Well, I mean, not just anyone could make it, I know...but really it was totally worth it to see your smiles." (Never reveal how gosh darn easy it was to make.)

6.  Put on a puppet show!

If you have any questions at all, please leave it in the comment box, or send me an email.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by :)
