Join mother-daughter team, Lori Lue and Mikayla Melero of "MyPetWormyWorm" March 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at to learn how garbage can help your garden grow.
The whole family is invited to attend this hands-on workshop and learn how to transform household food scraps into fertile organic soil. Come learn about how worms can help us care for the environment and get tips about recycling, repurposing and reusing items which would otherwise find their way into landfills.

Volunteer opportunity March 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
You are invited to help the Alameda Backyard Growers locate productive fruit trees on the Island by walking, biking or driving around Alameda. "Fruit Finder" volunteers will team up with family, friends and other Alameda Backyard Grower members.
Volunteers will log basic tree data on a simple form that will be passed along to the Alameda Fruit Gleaning Initiative team to map tree locations and follow up with owners.
The event will take place even if it rains. Light refreshments will be available as well as raffle prizes.

Regular monthly meetings bring local backyard gardeners together
Alameda Backyard Growers generally meet monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at Rhythmix Cultural Works from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meetings and workshops are free and open to Alameda residents and those from the surrounding area. You do not need to be an expert gardener to join. All skill levels are welcome.
At monthly meetings members (and others) also drop off fruit and vegetable donations from their backyard gardens which are then donated to the where they are distributed to Alameda residents in need.
Upcoming monthly meetings will be held April 10 when the short film "Subversive Garden Plot" will be shown and the Alameda Backyard Growers will celebrate its second year anniversary. On May 8 there will be a potluck and discussion about local gardens and on June 12 master gardener Birgitt Evans will present a "Summer Garden Workshop".
