Animal Shelter Celebrates Holidays With Free Adoptions Dec. 7-9

Find out how you can bring a new pet home for the holidays for free...this week only!

Staff, volunteers and all the pets at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) wish you the happiest of holidays. Thank you for making our first year at the Alameda Animal Shelter a huge success for the animals in our community. Our biggest gift for the holidays is that the shelter is still here and thriving. If you haven't been by recently, visit us over the holidays and celebrate this most joyous season surrounded by adorable pets. One of them may even steal your heart!

Free Pet Adoptions:  Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) is having a three-day adopt-a-thon from Friday, Dec. 7 until Sunday, Dec. 9 to find new homes for the more than 80 dogs and cats at the shelter.

All dog and cat adoptions are FREE! All the pets have been vaccinated (except for rabies), micro-chipped and spayed or neutered. Included in your adoption package is a certificate for a free health exam at a local vet, coupons from various pet-related businesses and 20 percent off at Pet Food Express.

We also will be giving away free pet beds (donated by Bank of Alameda) with adoptions while supplies last. If you live in Alameda, you will receive your pet's first one-year license for free. The unconditional love from your new pet is free too!

The shelter is open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Visit FAAS online at www.alamedaanimalshelter.org to get more information and view the animals waiting for adoption.

Success Story:  This month's success story is about the many animal lives saved this year at the Alameda Animal Shelter by the FAAS Angel Fund. The Angel Fund allows us to provide medical care to homeless pets with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. You've read about many of them in this newsletter - Mabel, Mojo, Bella, Ace, Coco - and so many more.

We were able to take these animals in, provide them life-saving care, and prepare them for their new forever homes. The Angel Fund is entirely funded through individual donations and we are so very thankful to all of our supporters who have contributed to it. During this wonderful season of sharing, we encourage you to be an Angel and make a donation to save an animal's life. Thank You!

2013 Alameda Pets Calendar: Looking for holiday gifts? FAAS has just published a beautiful calendar full of local cats and dogs that were finalists in our recent pet photo contest. Visit the FAAS website to see a collage of the pets highlighted in the calendar. Calendars are available for purchase at the shelter, or you can order them by calling 510-337-8565.

Give with GiveGoods:  Did you know that you could support adoptable animals at the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) while also supporting Alameda businesses through Give Goods?

Instead of waiting in long lines at big stores, you can visit local friendly businesses with savings certificates you obtain from the Give Goods website at http://www.givegoods.org/charities/friends-of-the-alameda-animal-shelter/rewards. Visit the website and find out who is participating and what great deals will benefit your shopping list as well as Alameda's homeless animals.
