FORTY-THREE ALAMEDA SHELTER PETS ADOPTED THIS PAST WEEKEND!

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) had a great weekend with 43 adoptions!  FAAS participated in Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, a nationwide adoptathon sponsored by our local Maddie’s Fund.  All adoptions were free for the weekend, and Maddie’s Fund reimburses FAAS for each adoption made – a real win-win for Alameda’s homeless pets and FAAS!

Here are a few of the wonderful pets who have gone to their forever homes.

Coco and Cricket are a bonded senior (12 years old) pair that lived at the shelter or in foster for almost a year.  It’s hard to find new homes for senior felines, and especially hard for a bonded pair.  These handsome guys stole the hearts of staff and volunteers with their need for each other and for human attention.  The person adopting them last weekend came in saying she wanted only “senior cats”, and we led her right to Coco and Cricket.  It was love at first sight!

Some of you might remember Toby, the little Poodle/Terrier mix who arrived at FAAS so matted he could hardly stand.  After a thorough shave, a good bath, and the removal of several embedded foxtails, the sad little grey dog transformed into a magnificent white, happy-go-lucky dog who wags his whole body with joy.  Toby went to a home with other canine pals and a new person who will fill his life with the love he never received  prior to coming to FAAS.

Ella, the incredibly beautiful black cat, came to FAAS in July 2012.  We thought, that this beauty would find a home in a very short time, but that was not to be.  Perhaps it was because she was black (many people will not adopt black coated pets) or she was a bit shy and easily overlooked?  It doesn’t matter, Ella was quickly snatched up this weekend and now lives the happy life in her new forever home.

Each of the 43 adoptions this past weekend represents a heartwarming story of an abandoned and homeless pet needing a new home.  FAAS is here for these lost pets, and volunteers and staff applaud each time another one leaves for their new life.  And, although we have a few empty kennels now, they fill up fast, so please consider a new best friend for your own home.  Help FAAS save the lives of Alameda’s homeless pets!!
