Alameda Death Notices

Some of the people with ties to Alameda who passed away recently

Robert Edgar Berges, a resident of Alameda, was an avid mountain climber and environmentalist. He was a lifelong member of the Sierra Club. He climbed every peak 14,000 feet and higher in the lower 48 states. He passed away on July 25 at the age of 87.

Milton Barney Kane grew up in Alameda, graduating from Alameda High School in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army and was a basketball star at Modesto Junior College and the University of Utah. He obtained a law degree and practiced law for 32 years at the Department of Transportation in Sacramento. He passed away on July 14 at the age of 78.

Cheryl O'Brien Jones was born in Alameda and graduated as valedictorian from Alameda High School. She also competed on the Alameda Swim Team. She received a kidney pancreas transplant in 1993 and was an advocate for organ donation. She passed away on June 28 at the age of 50.
