Funeral Services Today for Ryan McDaniels, 19

The former Alameda High School water polo player and swimmer died of apparent natural causes last week.

Funeral services are planned this morning for Ryan Joseph McDaniels, 19, a former Alameda High School varsity water polo star who died suddenly last week of natural causes.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. at , followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial scholarship fund for AHS swimming and water polo can be sent to Ryan J. McDaniels Aquatic Fund, c/o Bank of Alameda, 2130 Otis Drive, Alameda, CA 94501 according to an obituary published on insidebayarea.com.

Public officials say McDaniels, who had a lifelong medical condition, lost consciousness during a break from a water polo game Aug. 7, according to a news report.

His obituary says McDaniels was a 2010 graduate of Alameda High School, where he competing on league winning teams for both water polo and swimming. He also swam competitively with the Alameda Island Aquatics and the Alameda Ala-Gators and took part in the Lincoln Marching Band, Alameda Youth Soccer, Little League, and Boy Scouts, the obituatary says.
