Obituary: Terry Yorke LaCroix, Jr., Alameda's First Elected Mayor

Terry Yorke LaCroix, Jr. passed away in Chico, Calif. on March 19, 2013. He was Alameda's first elected mayor serving from 1969 to 1975.

Terry Yorke LaCroix, Jr.,passed away in Chico, Calif., on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

According to the website www.legacy.com, he was born on October 24, 1924. LaCroix was a native son of Alameda. He was an alumnus of St. Joseph Catholic School and Alameda High School (class of 1942).

LaCroix married his wife Patricia ("Patty") in 1947 and settled in Alameda where they raised their six daughters. In the early years, he worked as a manager at the Del Monte plant at Buena Vista and Sherman St. in Alameda. LaCroix later had a long career as a banking executive until the time he retired in 1986.

President of Kiwanis Club, Board of Directors of Providence Hospital (now Summit Medical Center in Oakland), Board of Directors of Hanna Boys' Center in Marin County, Chairman of Alameda Park and Recreation Dept., Alameda City Councilmember (1963-1969), Chairman of Alameda County Criminal Justice Planning Board (1971-73), President of Mayor's and Councilmen's League of California Cities and Alameda's first elected mayor serving from 1969 -1975.

Friends are invited to a rosary service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Redding on Monday, April 1 at 5 p.m. followed by a casual reception at the church. A memorial mass will be scheduled in Alameda for a future date according to the post.
