Remembering Svend Svendsen: Founder of Svendsen's Boat Works

A memorial will be held for Svendsen at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 15, at the Encinal Yacht Club, 1251 Pacific Marina, the Alameda Sun reports.

Beloved Bay Area sailor and businessman Svend Svendsen, died on May 27 in his Alameda home after his long battle against cancer, the Alameda Sun reports. He was 81 years old.

Svendsen was born in Denmark in 1932 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1956, his son Sean told Latitude 38.

He and his wife Suzanne founded Svendsen's Boat Works in 1963 at the Pacific Marina in Alameda — now known as Marina Village, the Alameda Sun reports. In 1966 he moved the business to its current location in the Alameda Marina, according to the Alameda Sun.
