A Kid's View: The Championship Game

The soccer season finally draws to a close

The one bad thing about a championship game is that it means the season is over.

Luckily, there are also a large number of good things:

1. It means you at least made it that far
2. You might actually win
3. You get to play a soccer game and...
4. You can now stay up late on weekends without having to worry about being too tired to play soccer.

However, my focus was on number 2, we could actually win! The game started out well. After a nice cross, we managed to score.

Later in the first half our opponents managed to squeeze in a goal.

The rest of the game was sort of uneventful except a few great scoring chances.

Then, with the score 1-1, the final whistle blew. We were all dreading it, the extra time. It wasn't just extra time, it was golden goal, or sudden death whichever you prefer. If someone scores, game over.

Ten minutes later the whistle blew again and it went to penalties. Those of us who were on the bench were allowed to come onto the field to watch, but we couldn't take the kicks.

Our goalie saved the first goal rather dramatically and I entirely forget who it was who scored for us. A bit later we were on the fourth round of penalties.

If our goalie saved it, we were the State Cup champions. He saved it, but the referee didn't have the right count so they did the final (unnecessary) round of penalties.

Then we went to the award ceremony and got medals and (I think it really belongs to the club) a nice big trophy. After a few pictures we finally were ready to leave. On the way home a nice stop at In-N-Out Burger topped things off very nicely.

I wish we still had more games!
