RESCUE/EXPER. FOSTER STILL NEEDED FOR PRADA AT FAAS

Trish King assessed this abused 10-month old pit mix who, to this day has been locked in isolation for nearly 2 months straight with limited exercise, and concluded Prada would be a liability for adopters. She stated this female was too fearful and aggressive.

Since Prada has been deemed a "liability" her only way out ALIVE is through a rescue pull or an approved foster who has experience working with pit bulls.

Upon meeting Prada myself, I saw no fearfulness nor aggression. I actually was surprised to be confronted with quite the opposite: a very confident and loving girl.

I'll be frank, I do not agree with Ms King's assessment but then again, I am by no means an expert. But Badrap.org (the organization responsible for assisting in overseeing the successful rescue and rehabilitation of 47 of 48 Michael Vick fight dogs) are experts on dog behavior and after initially meeting Prada had this to say: "she's undersocialized to dogs, has lots of energy, has no manners but is incredibly smart and treat motivated, she has a good sit and just needs some cleaning up."

All basic training issues.

Prada is a dog condemned to death due to lack of basic training.

This brings up a very interesting approach in Behaviorist Thought: Some dog behaviorists assess to see if a dog needs to die while others assess to see what is needed to keep that same dog alive. It’s apples to oranges. Or in this case, life or death.

I present to you a short film of Prada being Prada: Prada video1

It's been established over and over again that FAAS doesn't have the ability or resources to do daily, basic one-on-one focused training in-house for undersocialized dogs. FAAS management and the FAAS Board of Directors should be transparent about that, not just to me, but to the City and to its community of funders. No dog should have to die in a shelter for lack of training but sadly, here it is.

Now, to be fair, for the first time, Diana at FAAS has reached out to me in an attempt to get a dog rescued. That's Prada, in the picture above.

I then reached out to Badrap.org and informed them of the situation. They immediately responded to the situation by allowing Prada into their training program (which is booked in advance 6 months).

I chose to no longer be an active volunteer with FAAS due to its refusal to work with bully breeds. I stepped up because no dog should die for lack of training. For now, Prada goes to weekly Badrap pit bull ed classes sponsored by Berkeley Animal Care Services. Her death sentence has been delayed due to her progression with training and the bond she has created with those who have worked with her.

Prada was once condemned as a "fearful liability".  With the proper care, attention, and treatment, Prada has since proved herself to be very eager in her training, and very lovable in her demeanor.

If anyone reading this is interested in assisting with Prada's recovery and rehoming, or is interested in meeting this goofy girl, please email me at beesfb@yahoo.com or Diana Kimbrough at dkimbrough.faas@gmail.com.
