From an Alameda Fire Department press release:
Alameda Firefighters Care Enough to Wear Pink, Passionately
During the month of October, Alameda firefighters will join colleagues across the nation and proudly wear pink T-shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Alameda firefighters are participating with the Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, whose mission is to prevent breast cancer by eliminating exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease.
“The Alameda Fire Department remains steadfast in its support of this important event. We are committed to do our part in eradicating this disease which has caused so many people to grieve,” said Alameda Fire Chief Mike D’Orazi.
All members of the fire department, along with many community members, participated in this recognition last year. The City of Alameda, the Alameda Fire Department and the Alameda Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 689, hope to draw attention to the continued need for cancer awareness and garner more support to find a cure.
