Animal Cruelty, Juvenile Brandishes Handgun and Robbers Beat Victim on Haight Avenue

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from Jan. 8 to Jan. 13. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Sunday, Jan. 13

  • 9:43 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2000 block of Versailles Avenue.
  • 12 p.m.: Animal cruelty was reported on the 300 block of Willow Street. A 62-year-old man was arrested after leaving his dog in his locked car overnight when when temperatures dropped below 30 degrees F.
  • 3:05 p.m.: A suspect used a victim's personal information to attempt to defraud another victim in Delaware. The incident was reported on the 1800 block of Santa Clara Avenue.
  • 3:58 p.m.: Cruelty and child endangerment were reported on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Park Street. A 42-year-old woman was arrested after a witness reported her driving a vehicle, with a child passenger, while intoxicated. The woman admitted to driving the vehicle with the child inside and she was determined to be driving while intoxicated, police said.

Saturday, Jan. 12

  • 12:15 p.m.: A suspect used a victim's identification to obtain credit. The incident was reported on the 200 block of Victoria Bay.
  • 12:22 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 3100 block of Mecartney Road.
  • 9:15 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1900 block of Bay Street. A suspect gained entry to the residence via an unsecured first-floor laundry room window. The suspect searched the interior, stole jewelry, and fled.

Friday, Jan. 11

  • 4:55 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue. The vehicle window was broken and an iPhone and GPS were taken.
  • 8:15 a.m.: Shoplifting was reported in the 2200 block of South Shore Center. Two suspects entered the business, placed merchandise in a shopping cart, and took the merchandise outside without making an attempt to pay. When the shopping cart's security wheel lock was triggered, the suspects fled without the merchandise.
  • 8:42 a.m.: A 14-year-old juvenile was arrested for brandishing a weapon on the 200 block of Central Avenue. The juvenile confronted a victim abouta rumor. During the confrontation, the juvenile displayed a handgun to the victim, who assumed the gun was real and feared for his safety. The incident was reported on the 200 block of Central Avenue.
  • 11:10 a.m.: A suspect obtained a victim's Social Security number by unknown means and used it for employment. The incident was reported on the 800 block of Santa Clara Avenue. 
  • 11:06 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1400 block of Grove Street. 
  • 2:37 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2300 block of Santa Clara Avenue. A 36-year-old woman entered the business wearing a jacket with torn lining on the inside and and was arrested after placing merchandise inside the opening. She was contacted inside the business and admitted she was going to steal the merchandise. She was found to be in violation of her probation and in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also arrested on suspicion of an additional prior reported theft from the business.

Thursday, Jan. 10

  • 12:39 p.m.: A suspect used a victim's credit card information to make purchases. The incident was reported on the 1600 block of Ninth Street.
  • 12:46 p.m.: Grand theft from a boat was reported on the 1100 block of Bellena Boulevard. A locked, and unattended outboard boat motor was taken.
  • 5:49 p.m.: A robbery was reported on the 500 block of Haight Avenue. Three suspects approached a victim from behind and grabbed him in an attempt to take his personal property. The victim resisted, and the suspects punched and kicked him. The suspects fled before police arrived and have not been located. No loss was reported.
  • 9:47 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue. A suspect broke a victim's car window and took an Apple iPad. 

Wednesday, Jan. 9

  • 12:12 a.m.: A 31-year-old male sex registrant man was arrested in the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue. He was contacted in a parking lot that a judge had ordered him to stay away from. The man, a transient, was out of compliance for not registering regularly, police said.
  • 9:20 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1300 block of Grove Street. A suspect removed the basement door from its hinges, entered and stole unknown items.
  • 1:29 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1500 block of Eastshore Drive. A suspect broke the lock of a garage window, climbed in and stole a bike and miscellaneous tools.
  • 2:53 p.m.: Fraud was reported on Buena Vista Avenue. A suspect tricked the victim into sending her $200.
  • 11:22 a.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 1400 block of Morton Street. A suspect stole jewelry from the victim's dresser drawer and fled. 

Tuesday, Jan. 8

  • 6:27 a.m.: Forgery was reported on the 1500 block of Webster Street. A suspect deposited two dishonored and unpaid checks totaling $4,200 into her account and withdrew credited funds. The suspect also made debit card purchases against the account, causing a total net financial loss to Citibank of $1,671.34.
  • 7:17 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 500 block of Central Avenue.
  • 8:35 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 200 block of Inverness Court. A suspect removed jewelry, a remote control, a vehicle key and a purse.
  • 9:14 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1500 block of Fifth Street. The suspect broke the passenger side window of a locked vehicle with an unknown object and removed the victim's wallet.
  • 8:53 a.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 1900 block of Webster Street. A 22-year-old man took goods from a business and was later placed under citizen's arrest after being identified by a witness. He was transported to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.
  • 8:58 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1400 block of Fourth Street. A suspect broke a vehicle window and took pesonal property.
  • 9:28 a.m.: A suspect used the victim's personal information to open a line of credit. The incident was reported on the 200 block of Seabridge Way.
  • 4:59 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1400 block of Oak Street. The vehicle's window was broken and the suspect took personal items.
  • 10:35 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 900 block of Oak Street. An unknown suspect shattered the vehicle window with an unknown object, gained entry to the interior and stole the vehicle.
