Arson at American Oak, Bank Robber Flees Empty-Handed and Update on Dead Body Found in Van

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from Dec. 3 to Dec. 9. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Sunday, Dec. 9

  • 12:14 a.m.: A 35-year-old man was arrested on the 1500 block of Park Street for possession of narcotics. He was contacted during a disturbance and found to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was booked at North County Jail and found to be in possession of cocaine.
  • 12:07 a.m.: Petty theft from a vehicle was reported on the 800 block of Pacific Avenue. A suspect entered a victim's unlocked vehicle and took loss.
  • 12:19 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 300 block of Jack London Avenue. An unknown suspect gained access to the residence through an unlocked door. The suspect stole a laptop computer.
  • 2:23 a.m.: Petty theft from a vehicle was reported ont he 500 block of Pacific Avenue. A suspect entered a victim's vehicle, stole multiple items, and fled the scene. The suspect was later arrested and the items were recovered. The suspect, a 25-year-old man was found crouching behind a gas station dumpster on the 1700 block of Park Street. Upon consent search, he was found to be in possession of stolen property which was linked to three separate thefts from unlocked vehicles earlier in the morning. He also showed objective signs of being under the influence of a stimulant and alcohol.
  • 4:06 a.m.: Petty theft from a vehicle was reported on the 800 block of Pacific Avenue. The suspect entered the victim's unlocked car and took the loss.
  • 9:14 a.m.: A 41-year-old man was arrested on the 2000 block of Webster Street after a traffic stop. He was arrested for two outstanding warrants.
  • 8:58 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of Encinal Avenue. A suspect forced entry into the victim's vehicle, searched it but fled with no loss.
  • 9:59 a.m.: A burglary was reported on the 400 block of Central Avenue. A suspect pried a door handle in attempt to break into the apartment.
  • 6:34 p.m.: A 23-year-old man was cited on the 2200 block of South Shore Center for petty theft. He was placed under Citizen's Arrest by the store security after being caught shoplifting a necklace.

Saturday, Dec. 8

  • 6:18 a.m.: Arson was reported on the 2300 block of Santa Clara Avenue. A suspect made entry into the American Oak restaurant and intentionally ignited items inside causing a fire.
  • 6:04 p.m.: A 20-year-old woman was arrested and 15-year-old minor was cited for shoplifting at the 2200 block of South Shore Center. They were placed under Citizen's Arrest by loss prevention after they were witnessed shoplifting.

Friday, Dec. 7

  • 6:54 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1300 block of Lafayette Street. An unknown suspect stole a victim's vehicle by unknown means and fled.
  • 8:21 a.m.: Petty theft was reported on the 100 block of Hudson Bay. A suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim's vehicle and left another license plate in its place. The license plate left by the suspect belonged to a stolen vehicle out of Oakland. The stolen vehicle was recovered.
  • 9:22 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue. A suspect entered a locked shed and stole an electronic drum set.
  • 2:46 p.m.: Fraud was reported on the 3200 block of Central Avenue. An unknown suspect tricked a victim into sendin money via Money Gram.
  • 3:25 p.m.: A 25-year-old man was arrested for selling narcotics at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Lafayette Street. He was contacted during a consensual contact and was found to be on probation with a four way search clause. During a probation search, the suspected methamphetamine for sale was located on his person.
  • 6:31 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1600 block of Concordia Street. An unknown suspect entered the victim's home and stole a Playstation 3 gaming system along with six Playstation games.
  • 8:05 p.m.: Petty theft was reported on the 900 block of Marina Village Parkway. Two suspect entered the store and took merchandise without paying.

Thursday, Dec. 6

  • 9:59 a.m.: Grand theft from a vehicle was reported on the 600 block of West Tower Avenue. An unknown suspect stole items from a victim's parked car.
  • 1:32 p.m.: A robbery was reported on the 2200 block of Otis Drive. An unknow suspect entered Chase Bank and gave a teller a note saying this was a robbery. The suspect fled on foot with no loss.
  • 1:38 p.m.: A man was found dead in his vehicle parked at Blanding Avenue from what appeared to be natural causes. Alameda Patch reported on this incident, where several police cars were at the scene outside Nob Hill Foods according to readers. The man had been identified as Alden Mah, 53, of Oakland.
  • 7:19 p.m.: A 34-year-old man was arrested on the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue for being in possession of narcotics. He was placed under Citizen's Arrest after a loss prevention employee caught him shoplifting. A records check revealed that he had three outstanding warrants issued for his arrest. During a booking search, he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Wednesday, Dec. 5

  • 8:11 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 200 block of Channing Way. An unknown suspect smashed a window of the vehicle to gain entry. The suspect removed the property from inside and took off.

Tuesday, Dec. 4

  • 10:03 a.m.: Fraud was reported on the 1800 block of Shoreline Drive. An unknown suspect used a victim's personal information to open an account with Comcast.
  • 1:44 p.m.: An unknown suspect took Christmas decorations from a victim's front yard on the 1500 block of Fernside Boulevard.
  • 2:41 p.m.: A car burglary was reported on the 1600 block of Park Street. A suspect broke the car window, opened the sliding door, grabbed loss and fled scene on foot.
  • 4:15 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1800 block of 8th Street. An unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked door, taking a firearm, video game system, and multiple other items.

Monday, Dec. 3

  • 8:59 a.m.: Auto theft was reported onthe 1000 block of Magnolia.
  • 1:52 p.m.: Forgery was reported on the 1500 block of Park Street. A suspect used a counterfeit check to make a purchase.
  • 1:34 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2000 block of Challenger Drive. An unknown suspet pried open the rear door to the business. The suspect removed a large toolbox with fire equipment and fled the area.
  • 2:25 p.m.: Forgery was reported onthe 1500 block of Park Street. A suspect used a counterfeit check to make a purchase.
  • 10:38 p.m.: A 27-year-old woman was arrested on the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue for possession of narcotics. She was seen driving recklessly. Upon a probation search, she was found to be in possession of suspected heroin. She was driving with a suspended license and was in violation of her probation. The woman was also concealing an additional amount of suspected heroin in her bra as she was being booked into jail.
