At Ruby Bridges Elementary, New Safety Measures Planned After Sexual Assault

AUSD Supt. Kirsten Vital spoke with parents at a PTA meeting Tuesday evening.

Superintendent Kirsten Vital told parents at Ruby Bridges Elementary School Tuesday night that the Alameda Unified School District has hammered out a deal with the city to fence off a blacktop area behind the school that is open to the public, according to a report published today on The Alamedan website.

Parents have been questioning school safety procedures since a Ruby Bridges student was sexually assaulted by a 14-year-old boy in a school restroom on Aug. 30.

The school will also begin closing and locking gates to the campus, The Alamedan reported. Together, the fence and the gate policy should close the campus to outsiders.
