Bomb Scare Closes Alameda Police Building Briefly
The building was closed for about two hours Thursday while a Sheriff's Department bomb squad examined a suspicious object.

The Alameda Police Department was briefly blocked off due to a bomb scare on Thursday night, police said.
A man came to the police building at 1555 Oak St. with what was believed to be a pipe bomb around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Joe McNiff said.
The man said he found the suspicious object in the 400 block of Marshall Way, McNiff said.
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office's bomb squad responded to the scene and officers blocked off the area in front of the department until 11:30 p.m., McNiff said.
Sheriff's officials determined the object was not an explosive device, he said.
No evacuations were issued during the investigation and Alameda City Hall, which is located on the same block as the police building, was not affected by the scare, McNiff said.
