Coroner Identifies Man Who Died on Fruitvale Bridge Last Week

Brian McColm, 50, was an Alameda resident, according to a spokesman from the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.

The on the Fruitvale Bridge Thursday morning was identified today by the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.

Brian McColm, 50, was a resident of Alameda, said Sgt. M. Denobriga of the coroner's office.

"The cause of death was hanging," Denobriga said. "Investigators are still looking into the case to determine the manner."

McColm's body as he arrived for work just before 7 a.m. Thursday morning.

The , working with the and the Coast Guard, lowered McColm's body into a boat below the bridge at around 8:30 a.m.

Alameda Police Department spokesman Lt. Sean Lynch said the department could not comment on the investigation.

"All DOAs, particularly possible suicides, are something the department won’t comment on because the investigations are ongoing," Lynch said. "Anything that we would say would be speculation until the facts are in place."
