Family Saved Before Car Submerges in San Leandro Bay

Oakland Police rescued a family of four after the driver of the car drove into the San Leandro Bay on Sunday afternoon.

A man drove his car into the San Leandro Bay on Sunday was rescued along with his wife and two children before the car fully submerged, Oakland Police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., the man drove the car into the water off Doolittle Drive and Langley Street, Oakland Police Public Information Officer Johnna Watson said. Oakland police responded and helped get the family out of the car before it was fully submerged.

According to ABC News Radio, three "good Samaritans" — two men and a woman — jumped into the water to try and save the family before police arrived.

The victims were not injured and the case is being investigated, Watson said.

The car still remains in the water and will be handled by Alameda County Sheriff's Office and possibly a dive team, Watson said.
