An accident on wet roads left a young boy dead Monday afternoon.
"It was auto vs. bicycle," said an officer at the scene just after 5:30 p.m. A bike lay in the road at the corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Everett Street, while the 's major accident investigation team studied the accident site.
Late Monday evening the coroner identified the boy as thirteen-year-old Brandon Sorensen. He was in seventh grade at Lincoln Middle School.
Police got the first call about the accident at 3:53 p.m., according to an Alameda Police Department dispatcher.
"He didn't make it," said the officer at the scene, who said police had no details to release about the accident.
"An investigation is ongoing," he said.
A statement from the Alameda Police Department said Sorensen was transported to Oakland's Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Alameda Lt. Joe McNiff said the Police Department could not release details about the investigation.
"Any comment about the investigation would be premature," said McNiff. "It's obviously devastating for everyone involved."
