Firefighters Extinguish Fire in Laundry Room in Alameda Apartment Complex

The fire occurred in the 1200 block of Regent Street.

Firefighters quickly put out a fire at an apartment building in Alameda on Saturday evening, a fire captain said Sunday.

Fire crews responded to a report of smoke at an apartment in the 1200 block of Regent Street around 6:45 p.m., Capt. James Colburn said.

The blaze was contained to a laundry room in the three-story, four-unit apartment building, which caused extensive smoke damage through the structure, he said.

The one-alarm fire was quickly put out shortly before 7 p.m., a fire dispatcher said.

The blaze caused an estimated $13,000 in damage, according to Colburn.

The American Red Cross was called to assist those displaced by the fire, he said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Colburn said.
