Firefighters Rescue Disabled Boat Near Robert W. Crown Memorial Beach
The 14 foot aluminum boat was in water too shallow for the Coast Guard to reach them.

Alameda firefighters towed a disabled boat to shore near Robert W. Crown Memorial Beach this afternoon after receiving a request for help from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard contacted the fire department and requested assistance at 1:10 p.m., according to Fire Captain James Colburn. A 24 foot Coast Guard rescue boat had been unable to reach the disabled vessel due to the shallowness of the Bay waters. Firefighters arriving at Crown Beach located a 14 foot aluminum boat around 500 yards south of Crown Beach.
Firefighters launched a rescue boat and made contact with the occupants of the boat at 1:34 p.m. The mechanically disabled boat was taking on water due to the high wind and rough waves, Colburn said.
Firefighters towed the boat to Crown Beach, where it was helped to shore. There were no injuries reported.
