Kitchen Fire Damages Home on Bay Farm Island

Fire and smoke damage is estimated at $10,000.

A kitchen fire in a Bay Farm Island home caused about $10,000 damage this afternoon, Wednesday, but no one was injured in the blaze, according to an Alameda Fire Department (AFD) bulletin.

The AFD responded to a 12:38 p.m. report of a fire in a residence on the 300 block of Oleander Avenue. Arriving firefighters found a fire in the kitchen of a single-story dwelling, which was partially extinguished by the occupants, with smoke throughout the building, the AFD said.

Firefighters completed extinguishment and checked the building for any fire extension, the bulletin said. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the home. A total of 22 firefighters responded.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire was accidental and its origin was the kitchen oven.

Fire and smoke damage is estimated at $10,000 to the building and its contents.
