Man Threatens Motorists with Tree Trunk, Terrorist Watch List Letter, Home Burglaries, Dog Bite

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log May 2-5. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Thursday, May 2

  • 1:40 a.m.: Grand theft — someone stole a victim's cellphone near the intersection of Oak Street and Santa Clara Avenue.
  • 7:24 a.m.: A locked vehicle was reported stolen from the 1800 block of Poggi Street.
  • 7:59 p.m.: A bicyclist rode through a stop sign in the 2200 block of Pacific Avenue and, when stopped by police, was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant. The cyclist was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine, police said.

Friday, May 3

  • 7:25 a.m.: Someone threw rocks at windows of NCR Environmental Services Inc. on Ferry Point, breaking three of them.
  • 9:28 a.m.: An unknown person removed the rear license plate of a vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Santa Clara Avenue.
  • 10:23 a.m.: A person was bitten by a large dog at Franklin Park.
  • 1:09 p.m.: A suspect stabbed an acquaintance, attempted to rob A Chase Bank branch and robbed a bank customer, all in the Marina Village shopping center. See "One Man Stabbed, One Robbed with Box Cutter at Marina Village Today" for details.

Saturday, May 4

  • 8:38 a.m.: A burglar cut the padlock on a Singleton Avenue storage shed and stole antiques.
  • 3:29 p.m.: Someone broke windows on two vehicles parked in the 2200 block on Encinal Avenue, stealing items from each. About an hour later, police received reports of a similar incident involving two vehicles parked near the intersection of Otis Drive and Sandcreek Way.
  • 7:36 p.m.: A burglar stole money and jewelry from a residence in the 600 block of Rock Isle.
  • 8:09 p.m.: A driver was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after a collision near the intersection of Eighth Street and Haight Avenue.
  • 9:51 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after he was observed standing in the middle of Haight Avenue swinging a small tree trunk at passing vehicles.

Sunday, May 5

  • 1:52 p.m.: Someone broke into a locked vehicle in the 1800 block of Versailles Avenue and stole items.
  • 5:46 p.m.: A person on the FBI terrorist watch list wrote to the Alameda Police Department requesting police records.
  • 6:05 p.m.: A vehicle reported stolen in Oakland was recovered in the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue.
  • 9:54 p.m.: A man placed under citizen's arrest at Nob Hills Foods, 2531 Blanding Ave. (in the Bridgeside Shopping center) was later booked by police on suspicion of burglary and of violating probation for previous thefts.
  • 10:00 p.m.: A burglar entered a home in the 1200 block of Caroline Street through a open window and ransacked the residence.
  • 11:13 p.m.: A burglar forced open the door of a residence in the 1000 block of Otis Drive and stolen jewelry and personal items.
