Multiple Business Burglaries, Hate Crime, Broken Headlight Leads to Discovery of Stolen Gun

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Thursday, Feb. 21

  • 7:41 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 700 block of Santa Clara Avenue. A suspect broke the front window of business with a brick. The suspect entered the business and took loss from the cash register, and fled the scene.
  • 8:27 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 400 block of Central Avenue. A suspect smashed the front window of the business with a rock. The suspect entered the business and stole $125 from the cash register and fled.
  • 2:16 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2000 block of Eagle Avenue.

Friday, Feb. 22

  • 7:14 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1500 block of Webster Street. A suspect entered the business through a rooftop exhaust fan vent, took cash and fled the scene.
  • 3:36 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A 20-year-old man entered the business with the intention of stealing merchandise. He selected merchandise and exited the store with the stolen merchandise. He was later arrested.

Saturday, Feb. 23

  • 10:16 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1300 block of High Street. The suspect entered the business by unknown means. While inside, the suspect stole approximately $2,500 from a locked locker.
  • 3:26 p.m.: A garage burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Webster Street. A suspect entered the storage unit by unknown means, stole items, and fled the scene.
  • 7:41 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2800 block of marina Drive.
  • 7:31 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue.
  • 11:12 p.m.: Two men, ages 24 and 52, were arrested for carrying concealed weapons. A traffic stop was conducted on their vehicle after police found it had a headlight out. The smell of burnt marijuana emitted from the vehicle interior and a search was conducted. A loaded semi-automatic handgun was located in the vehicle's rear interior compartment. A records check revealed the gun had been reported as stolen. The 52-year-old driver and one of the 24-year-old passenger were taken into custody.

Sunday, Feb. 24

  • 1:19 a.m.: A 32-year-old man was arrested for selling narcotics. He was arrested on the 500 block of Haight Avenue. He was contacted after being seen driving a vehicle which had false plates attached to it. He had a suspended license. A search found him to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine for sales and possession of suspected hydrocodone pills.
  • 8:43 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1700 block of Bay Street.
  • 10:32 a.m.: A burglary vehicle was reported on the 1800 block of Bay Street. The suspect gained entry to the victim's locked vehicle, conducted a messy search and did not take anything.
  • 3:31 p.m.: Petty theft shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A 51-year-old woman received a citation. She entered the business and selected merchandise. She concealed merchandise, passed all points of sale without paying, and exited the business.
  • 5:21 p.m.: A 37-year-old man was cited for shoplifting at a business on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. He concealed merchandise in her pants and exited without paying.
  • 6:09 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2100 block of North Loop Road. A suspect broke the business' glass door with a rock, entered and took unknown items.
  • 10:08 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1300 block of South Loop Road. A suspect used a rock to smash a side glass door to gain entry into a business. The suspect selected a cash register and tip jar from the business cafeteria, then fled with the loss.

Monday, Feb. 25

  • 12:05 a.m.: Auto theft was reported at 53 Mecartney Road.
  • 4:39 a.m.: A hate crime was reported on Central Avenue. An unknown suspect broke the glass patio door and spray painted graffiti on the victim's fence.
  • 2:54 p.m.: A garage burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Webster Street. An unknown suspect cut the hasp on victim's storage unit and gained entry. The suspect stole a television and four tires and rims.
  • 7:16 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 300 block of Spruce Street. An unknown suspect obtained a victim's personal information and purchased items via the Internet.
