Police Log: Heroin Overdose; Robbery; Another Theft From Porch

Man succumbs to suicide attempt, Park Street fire, and more from July 25 to 29.

Monday, July 29

  • Car, where are you? An embezzlement report was filed from a leasing agency on the 2300 block of Blanding Avenue for a rental vehicle 30 days past due.
  • Assault with bat. A 19-year-old male was arrested at 6 p.m. along Haight Avenue after allegedly striking someone -- twice -- with a baseball bat. He also swung the bat at a second victim, but missed.
Sunday, July 28
  • Coke bust. A 21-year-old male was arrested for suspected narcotics possession at 5:40 p.m. on the 1900 block of Webster Street after being found with a small amount of powder cocaine.
  • Suicide. Police were called at 4:30 a.m. to Lincoln Avenue regarding a man who attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the chest with a knife. He was placed under an emergency psychiatric hold and transported to Highland Hospital, where he died several hours later.
Saturday, July 27
  • Attempted booze swipe. A male, 41, was arrested at 10:30 a.m. after reportedly shoplifting alcohol in his backpack from a Shoreline Center business. Exiting the establishment without paying for the goods also violated his probation. 
  • Help, help! Never mind. A woman, 42, flagged officers at 2:30 a.m. on Grand Street and Eagle Avenue to report a suspicious circumstance and request assistance. A record check, however, revealed an outstanding warrant, and she was arrested.
Friday, July 26
  • Park Street robbery. An unknown suspect held up a commercial establishment at 10:47 a.m. along 1400 Park Street. The robber simulated a handgun, demanded money and fled with the loot employees turned over to him. 
  • Alameda fire crews douse blaze on Park Street. A suspected electrical fire in an apartment on the 1800 block of Park Street Friday morning caused an estimated $35,000 in damages, according to the Alameda Fire Department. Story here.
  • A suspicious device was found on the Bay Bridge Friday afternoon, causing the bridge to be shut down in both directions for 35 minutes. Story here.
Thursday, July 25
  • Heroin overdose and backpack with drugs. Police were summoned at 2:27 a.m. to Park Avenue where a female was unresponsive after a heroin overdose. Emergency workers revived the woman, who then tried refusing medical treatment. She was placed on an emergency psychiatric hold and driven to John George Pavilion. Another individual admitted ownership of a black North Face backpack containing heroin and drug paraphernalia.
