Police Log: Assault with Cattle Prod, DUI Arrests, Burglar Climbs Through Hole in Roof

And a recent wave of auto thefts continued.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Nov. 9-11. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

SATURDAY, NOV. 9

DUI arrest — A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a traffic enforcement stop at Clement Avenue and Park Street about 3:45 a.m. His passenger, a 46-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance (a stimulant).

Auto recovery — A vehicle reported stolen in San Mateo was located in Alameda.

Auto thefts — A vehicle was stolen from the 200 block of Riddell Lane. Another auto theft was reported in the 1800 block of Wood Street.

Auto burglary — Someone broke a window of a vehicle parked at South Shore Center and stole a purse.

Grand theft — A bicycle was stolen from near the corner of Alameda Avenue and Park Street.

Forgery — Someone used the victim's checking account number to produce and use fraudulent checks.

Burglary — A burglar entered a garage in the 800 block of Lafayette Street through a hole in the ceiling and stole various items.

Outside assist — An APD canine unit assisted the Oakland Police Department in locating a suspect wanted for brandishing a firearm at OPD officers during a foot pursuit. The suspect was eventually located and taken into custody.

SUNDAY, NOV. 10

DUI arrests — Police arrested three people on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in separate incidents on Webster Street at Taylor Avenue, at Glasscock Street and 29th Avenue (in Oakland, a block past the Park Street Bridge), and in the 2200 block of Buena Vista Avenue. All three arrests were between midnight and 3:10 a.m.

Grand theft — An outboard motor was stolen from a boat in the 2300 block of Blanding Avenue.

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from the 1300 block of Webster Street, the first block of Hampton Court And the 2300 block of Blanding Avenue.

Hate crime — Some drew a swastika in the dust on the window of a vehicle parked on Lincoln Avenue.

Assault with bat and cattle prod — A fight between two people at Jackson Park, in the 1200 block of Park Avenue, about 7:20 p.m. escalated into an assault with deadly weapons when two other people ganged up on one of the combatants. Police said a woman struck the male victim with a baseball bat while a man electrically shocked him with a cattle prod. All those involved were in their early 20s and "are known to frequent Alameda," police said; the victim has family living on the Island.

MONDAY, NOV. 11

Vehicle thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from 300 block of Central Avenue (a motorcycle), the 800 block of Taylor Avenue, the 300 block of Westline Drive, the 1800 block of Central Avenue (later recovered) and the 1200 block of Eagle Avenue.

Auto burglaries and thefts from vehicles — A registration tab was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Taylor Avenue. A wallet was stolen from a vehicle in the 2200 block of Otis Drive.

Commercial robbery — A cigarette store was robbed at gunpoint. See "Two Days, Three Robberies — Thieves Get Big Haul in Stolen Cigarettes" for details.

Appropriating lost credit cards — During a consentual search of a vehicle during a traffic stop, officers found credit cards belonging to another person, police said. The driver, a 52-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and theft/appropriation of lost property.
