Police Log: Big Check Fraud, Visiting Police Station While Tipsy

Also, police had to restrain a man after a DUI arrest and lots of thefts — from boat motors to bikes — were reported.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Sept. 26-29. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 26

Auto burglary — Someone broke a window of a car parked in the 400 block of Willow Street, then stole personal property and money.

Bike thefts— A bicycle was stolen from an open garage in the 300 block of Bryant Avenue. In a second incident, someone stole an unlocked bike from the front porch of a home in the 2000 block of Eagle Avenue.

Intoxicated in police headquarters — Police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of public intoxication when he showed up at the front counter of the Alameda Police Department quite tipsy. And it was just a little after 12 noon...

Big bad check — Someone deposited a check, then they — or possibly someone else — withdrew $9,672.58 from the US Bank branch at 2424 Santa Clara Ave. before the bank discovered the check was fictitious. The incident was reported by bank investigators to the Alameda Police Department, where the felony unit is now investigating. Police said they have some positive leads in the case.

Marina theft — Someone stole a motor from a boat at the Alameda Marina, 1815 Clement Ave.

Shoplifting — Two women, ages 18 and 19, were cited and released about 6:45 p.m. after security personnel saw them take several items from shelves at Kohl's department store at 2201 South Shore Center, then leave the store without paying, police said. In a separate incident about 10 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was arrested after security personnel said she took items from Nob Hill Foods, 2531 Blanding Ave., without paying. Police said the woman also had an outstanding arrest warrant, was in violation of probation for petty theft and had drug paraphernalia in her possession.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27

DUI arrest — A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after police stopped him near the corner of Park STreet and Santa Clara Avenue and administered a field sobriety test.

Vandalism — A 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vandalism to Big O Tires, 1200 Park St. Police said the man's behavior appeared erratic.

Public intoxication — A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication while walking away from the scene of a disturbance in the 1500 block of Park Street shortly after 3:30 p.m. Police said the man also had narcotics paraphernalia in his clothing.

Auto thefts — Some broke the window of a vehicle parked in the 1800 block of Alameda Avenue and attempted to steal it. In a separate incident, a vehicle was stolen from the 1900 block of Everett Street.

DUI arrest and restraint — A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after being involved in a collision in the 1100 block of Park Street a little after 9 p.m. Police said the man was placed in a WRAP restraint device after trying to place his handcuffs in front of his body.

False information — A 20-year-old man, the passenger in a vehicle stopped by police for a possible traffic violation, provided false information about his identity, police said. The stop took place near the corner of Otis Drive and Fountain Street about 10:45 p.m. Police later determined the man's true identity and found he was on probation. He was arrested on suspicion of providing false information to a police officer.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28

More marina thefts — Motors were reported stolen from two boats at Alameda Marina, 1815 Clement Ave.

Auto theft  — A vehicle was reported stolen from the 2000 block of Eagle Avenue.

Fraud — A Fiji Lane resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

Vehicle recovery — Police located a vehicle reported stolen from a BART parking lot.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 29

Auto thefts — A vehicle was reported stolen from near the corner of Paru Street and Central Avenue. In a separate incident, another vehicle was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Mound Street.

Grand theft — Someone entered an unlocked business at 1900 Ferry Point and stole an unattended cell phone and iPad from an employee's desk.
