Mink Fur Coat Thief, Robber Returns Stolen Gun and Several Auto Thefts

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from Feb. 28 to March 4. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Thursday, Feb. 28

  • 6:08 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1500 block of St. Charles Street.
  • 6:59 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1800 block of Poggi Street.
  • 8:46 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 2200 block of Central Avenue. An unknown suspect obtained a victim's check card by unknown means and made several cash withdrawals without the victim's permission.
  • 1:19 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the corner of Central Avenue and Morton Street. A suspect entered a victim's locked vehicle, selected loss and fled.
  • 4:05 p.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Webster Street. A suspect cut the lock to two business storage units and stole multiple items from inside.
  • 10:51 p.m.: A 36-year-old woman was arrested for assault with a weapon on Santa Clara Avenue. She and her boyfriend got into an argument. During the argument, she bit him on the head and hit him with a clothing iron. She then stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.

Friday, March 1

  • 9:32 a.m.: Stolen property was recovered on the 2100 block of Buena Vista Avenue. A woman reported her purse stolen. She contacted APD when she discovered the suspect has ordered new tires using her stolen credit card. Officers go to the suspect's Alameda address and find the tires on an unoccupied car. The car is towed and the loss is recovered.
  • 10:17 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 200 block of Central Avenue. 
  • 4:08 p.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 3000 block of Triumph Drive. A suspect stole a victim's mink fur coat from her residence at some point during the last ten years.

Saturday, March 2

  • 8:09 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 2800 block of Encinal Avenue. A suspect forced entry into a business and stole various prescription drugs from the pharmacy.
  • 1:01 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of Mariner Square Loop. A suspect opened a victim's unlocked gym locker, stole her keys, and gained access to her vehicle. The suspect stole her purse out of her vehicle and fled the scene.

Sunday, March 3

  • 2:22 a.m.: A robbery was reported on the 4000 block of Seahorse. A 27-year-old man was later arrested. He entered a victim's garage, struck the victim, and took the victim's firearm. He later turned in the firearm and self surrendered.
  • 7:45 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of San Antonio Avenue. A suspect broke the window to the victim's vehicle, conducted a messy search, and did not steal anything.
  • 11:10 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 900 block of Marina Village Park. Suspects used a ladder to access the roof of the business and tools to cut hole in the roof. The suspects extended a rope ladder into the interior of the business setting off the alarm which caused the suspects to flee with no loss.
  • 7:59 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1600 block of Broadway. A suspect entered a residence by prying open the back door window and fled without a loss.

Monday, March 4

  • 7:16 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1400 block of Webster Street. A suspect used a rock to force entry into the business. The suspect took the loss then fled.
  • 9:06 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 900 block of Lilac Street. 
  • 9:42 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 3100 block of Fiji Lane.
  • 10:08 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 200 block of Sherwood Lane. 
  • 10:52 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 3200 block of Washington Street. 
  • 12:04 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1000 block of Oak Street. A suspect used a person's identification without permission.
  • 1:38 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 2400 block of Mariner Square Drive. A suspect gained entry into a victim's locked apartment by unknown means, selected the victim's wallet and fled with the loss.
  • 2:20 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 90 block of Maitland Drive.
  • 3:29 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 3100 block of Catalina Avenue.
  • 4:36 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 230 block of Kingfisher Avenue. A suspect used a victim's name and social security number to open a fraudulent account with a satellite television provider.
  • 3:24 p.m.: Forgery was reported on the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue. A suspect altered the amount on a check the victim wrote her and forged the victim's initials. The suspect cashed the check for the fraudulent amount.
