Police Log: Police Pursuit, Flagrant Flyers, Concealed Knives
Also, a yacht club burglary and an intoxicated man who kicked out the window of a police vehicle.
Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Sept. 19-20. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 19
Police pursuit — Officers pursued a stolen vehicle being driven in the 1500 block of Park Street just before 5 p.m. The pursuit was cancelled in the interest of public safety, police said.
Cat and dog fight — A cat attacked a dog that was being walked on a leash on the sidewalk near the corner of Park and San Jose avenues about 5:30 p.m., police said. The dog walker was bitten by the cat while trying to separate the animals. The cat died from injuries received during the incident.
Yacht club burglary — Two people burglarized the Alameda Yacht Club at 1535 Buena Vista Ave. Police said one suspect forced open a window to gain entry, while a second person climbed through the window and stole several items.
Miscellaneous — Someone produced several hundred flyers alleging that an acquaintance was having an affair and posted them on the outside of the victim's workplace.
Concealed weapons arrest — Police arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger (that's a knife) and possession of an expandable baton (a billyclub-like device) in the 1600 block of Park Street about 10 p.m.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 20
Recovered vehicle — A vehicle that was reported stolen in Berkeley was located by Alameda poiice on Park Avenue about 1 p.m.
Arrest — Police searched a 60-year-old man on probation after stopping him because he was driving a vehicle with expired registration tabs. The man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and suspicion of a variety of offenses, including possession of a concealed butcher knife and possession of possible heroin. The arrest took place in the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue about 2:15 p.m.
Vandalism to police vehicle — A 36-year-old man was arrested in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. on suspicion of public intoxication. Once in custody, the man kicked the window of the patrol vehicle, breaking it.
Stolen purse — Someone stole a purse from a shopping cart at Trade Joe's at South Shore Center shortly after 5 p.m.
Public intoxication — Two men, ages 49 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after they reportedly harassed the owner of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at 2424 Encinal Ave. about 9:40 p.m.
