Police Log: Skateboard Saved but Wallet Taken

Incidents of interest from the Alameda Police Department log, June 17-20.

 A 23-year-old Alameda man riding his skateboard on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of San Antonio Avenue was robbed Wednesday morning, June 20, by two men in their late teens to early 20s, an Alameda Police Department spokesman said.

Lt. Ted Horlbeck said one robber pulled the victim off his skateboard while the other grabbed the board and fled on foot. The victim tackled the remaining thief and then retrieved his skateboard, but in the process, his wallet fell out of his pocket, Horlback said. The robbers grabbed the wallet and ran, he said.

The victim did not receive serious injuries, Horlbeck said.

Burglaries

A burglar entered a home in the 200 block of Maitland Drive through a family room window, possibly after prying off a window screen, and took jewelry, camera equipment and other items, Horlbeck said. The thief later used the victim's credit card to purchase gas, he said. the burglary was reported just before 9 a.m. on June 17.

A home in the 2400 block of San Jose Avenue was burglarized on June 19, according to police reports. The burglar spray-painted graffiti on walls.

Assault and Battery

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he brandished a knife at another man in the 1300 block of Park Street on June 17, Horlbeck said. The victim received a cut on his right hand and used a stun gun or similar device to fend off his attacked, he said.

Both parties were arrested after a domentic argument near W. Midway Avenue and Orion Street escalated into violence about 11 a.m. on June 19, Horlbeck said. The man tried to choke his partner, while she retaiated by trying to run over him with her vehicle, Horlbeck said.

Theft

Vehicles were stolen from the 600 block of Central Avenue on June 16; the 1300 block of Webster Street on June 18; the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue on June 19 (three motorcycles); and the 2200 block of Pacific Avenue on June 20. An attempt to steal a vehicle in the 1400 block of Lincoln Avenue on June 20 failed, but the thief took the car stereo.

Several bicycles were reported stolen from various locations, including a backyard in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue and a laundry room in the 2100 block of Central Avenue.

Someone stole a metal grate cover from a parking lot in the 400 block of Park Street on June 20.

Miscellaneous

Someone set fire to the contents of three garbage bins in the 400 block of Grand Street around noon on June 18.

A city tree fell in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue the afternoon of June 19, damaging a vehicle.

Police were called June 19 when a woman refused to vacate a room at the Coral Reef, 400 Park St., which was no longer being paid for. When officers arrived, they found three other people on the scene, who fled via a balcony, Horlbeck said. One of the trio was detained and held on an outstanding arrest warrant, he said. The trio also left behind a backpack containing two loaded handguns, he said.
