Police Log: Smoking Pot by Police Station, Kicking Cops, Burglarizing Oakland Yacht Club

Plus a local resident shot himself in the foot, literally, while cleaning a rifle at his home.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Dec. 1-4. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

SUNDAY, DEC. 1

Battery — A 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of battery and public intoxication when police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1500 block of Park Street about 1 a.m. The woman punched a male victim in the face during an argument, police said. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery and public intoxication after punching another person in the face during an argument in the 500 block of Santa Clara Avenue about 3:20 p.m.

Auto thefts — Vehicle thefts were reports at Pacific Marina and in the 2700 block of Fifth Street.

Vandalism — Someone damaged the Garden Learning Center at Haight Elementary School.

Vehicle recovery — A vehicle that had been reported stolen in Oakland was located on Pensacola Road. The two righthand-side tires were missing.

Domestic violence — A 36-year-old man was arrested on a variety of charges after assaulting his wife while holding the couple's young child, police said. The man was in violation of a court order and terms of his probation as well, police said.

MONDAY, DEC. 2

Battery on a police officer — A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop at Webster Street and Santa Clara Avenue just after midnight. Police said the man kicked an officer while being placed under arrest. The man's female companion, age 24, tried to interfere with the arrest and was also taken into custody, police said.

Arson — Someone lit two trash cans on fire in the 1100 block of Park Avenue about 2 a.m. That evening, at the same location, police arrested a 22-year-old man who was seen burning a a symbol into a park bench with a flare. The man also had a concealed knife in his possession, police said.

TUESDAY, DEC. 3

Vehicle recovery — A vehicle reported stolen in Oakland was located in the 1700 block of Clinton Avenue.

Outside assist — East Bay Regional Parks police were involved in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later located on Blanding Avenue, and Alameda police assisted in trying to track the thief with a K9 unit about 11:25 a.m.

Shoots self in foot, literally — A Kittyhawk Road resident shot himself in the foot while cleaning a rifle at home.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 4

Auto thefts — Someone tried to steal a vehicle in the 1900 block of San Jose Avenue but was unsuccessful, although the vehicle's ignition was damaged. In a separate incident, a vehicle was stolen from the 1600 block of Fourth Street.

Commercial burglary — Someone broke into an office at the Oakland Yacht Club at Pacific Marina by climbing through ceiling tiles, police said. The loss, if any, was unknown at the time of the report.

Wrong place, wrong time — An Alameda police officer observed a 21-year-old man preparing marijuana to be smoked while across the street from the Police Department building at 1555 Oak St., according to police reports. The young man was arrested on suspicion of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
