Police Log: Window-Smash Car Burglaries, Injury Accident, Explosive Device, Bike Thefts

Alameda police remind local residents not to leave valuables in their parked cars. Ten people learned that the hard way in just three days, losing items that included a GPS device, a laptop computer and luggage.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log . Nov. 4-6. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, NOV. 4

Car burglaries — Someone broke into at least four vehicles in the 3200 block of Central Avenue and stole a variety of items.

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from from the 1700 block of Ninth Street and the 1400 block of Broadway.

Grand theft — Two security cameras were stolen from a self-storage facility on Sherman Street.

Warrant arrest — Alameda police contacted a 60-year-old man just being released from a state correctional facility in Tuolumne County and arrested him on two still-outstanding warrants.

Bike theft — A bicycle was stolen from the 700 block of Taylor Avenue.

Found property — A good citizen turned in more than $100 in currency found outside a South Shore Center restaurant.

TUESDAY, NOV. 5

Vehicle recovery — A vehicle stolen in Oakland was located near the corner of Central Avenue and Crown Drive.

Bike theft — A bicycle was stolen from a backyard in the 1300 block of Eastshore Drive. In a separate incident, a bike was taken from a garage in the 3200 block of Encinal Avenue.

Injury accident — A male pedestrian was critically injured in an accident on North Loop Road. See "Two Pedestrians in Critical Condition After Pair of Accidents" for details.

Auto thefts — One vehicle was stolen from the 1300 block of Webster Street, another from the 2900 block of Fillmore Street.

Explosive device found — A "high explosive projectile" was found at the Alameda Naval Air Museum. See "Korean War-Era Artillery Shell Found at Alameda Point" for details.

ID theft — A victim reported that someone used their bank card information to make a purchase at the Safeway supermarket at South Shore Center.

Theft from vehicle — A thief took a GPS device from an unlocked vehicle on Marina Village Parkway.

Home burglary — Someone entered an unlocked home on Pacific Avenue, stolen the resident's wallet and used the victim's credit cards to make several purchases.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 6

Burglary — A thief took items from a locked storage unit at the self-storage facility on Sherman Street where security cameras had been stolen two days before.

Bicycle thefts — Someone stole two bikes from the driveway of a Pearl Street home but abandoned one of them nearby.

Burglary — A burglar broke the door of a storage unit at a Bay Street apartment complex and stole cash.

Counterfeit cash — Someone used counterfeits currency for purchases at the Target store on Fifth Street.

Vandalism — Three students were found inside the upper floor girls' restroom at Encinal High School, where the rear window had fresh "tags." Police said the tags matched those on a backpack and school binders belonging to two of the students.

Theft from vehicle — Cash and a computer were stolen from a truck parked on Alameda Avenue.

Home burglary — Jewelry was stolen from an apartment in the 2100 block of Pacific Avenue.

Stroller theft — A child's stroller was stolen from the front of a home on Santa Clara Avenue.

Vehicle burglaries — Thieves broke car windows and stole a variety of items in a series of thefts discovered during the evening. Incidents took place on Central Avenue, W. Tower Avenue, Mariner Square and South Shore Center. The stolen items included backpacks, a laptop computer, a tote bag and luggage.
