Police Log: Officer Saves Baby, Rape, and Assault With a Loaded Gun

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from May 28 to June 2. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Sunday, June 2

  • 12:47 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Park Street. Two suspects forced entry into business and committed theft of several items. Another suspect was contacted by officers inside business after the alarm was activated. The suspect was booked at Glenn Dyer Jail. The two suspects fled the scene prior to police arriving on scene.
  • 1:53 a.m.: Discharge of a firearm was reported on the corner of San Antonio Avenue and Park Street. A suspect discharged a gun striking a victim's car and business. The suspect fled the area in an unknown direction.
  • 4:22 a.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 1800 block of Grand Street. A suspect stole a U-haul utility trailer from an unsecured storage yard.
  • 10:45 a.m.: A boat burglary was reported on the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue. A suspect removed spare engine parts from a victim's boat.
Saturday, June 1
  • 12:24 a.m.: A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported on the 2700 block of Tilden Way. 
  • 3:45 a.m.: Grand theft from a vehicle was reported on the 1300 block of Crown Drive. A suspect removed wheels and tired from vehicle. Suspect fled the scene with them.
  • 1:55 p.m.: A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported on the 600 block of Haight Avenue. A handwritten note from the witness of suspect's license plate involved in incident was submitted as evidence.
Friday, May 31
  • 2:28 p.m.: A suspect was seen driving a U-haul pickup truck, which was reported stolen out of Oakland Police Department. Upon search incident to arrest, the suspect was found in possession of suspected hydrocodone pills and less than one ounce of suspected marijuana. The suspect also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was arrested.
  • 4:35 p.m.: A boat burglary was reported on the 1500 block of Vista Avenue. A suspect pried open the lock to a victim's boat and left.
  • 7:03 p.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 2200 block of Harbor Bay Parkway.
Thursday, May 30
  • 7:46 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Oat Street. A suspect forced entry into a business and possibly stole unknown items.
  • 8:33 a.m.: A garage burglary was reported on the 1300 block of Broadway. Suspect entered unlocked detached garage and stole miscellaneous tools.
  • 12:08 p.m.: Suspects were contacted as passengers during a traffic stop. One suspect was searched due to being on probation for robbery and was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia. The other suspect lied about his name to officers and was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest. A search of the second suspect's property yielded burglary tools, a face mask, latex gloves and shaved keys. They were arrested.
  • 1:55 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2400 block of Shoreline Drive. 
  • 7:13 p.m.: Arson was reported on the 2700 block of Main Street. Two suspects were positively identified for starting a brush fire. They also admitted to starting the fire.
  • 10:43 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1900 block of Everett Street. Suspects used victim's credit card information to make unauthorized purchases.
Wednesday, May 29
  • 8:32 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 1900 block of Shoreline Drive.
  • 9:54 a.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 200 block of Central Avenue. A suspect gained access to a classroom, opened a safe and removed money and headphones.
  • 12:05 p.m.: A suspect was seen driving at a high rate of speed and was failing to stop at stop signs. Once officers were able to catch up to the vehicle, it was found abandoned in the middle of the street. The vehicle was found to be stolen out of Oakland Police Department. The suspect was detained near Chestnut Street and Pacific Avenue during an area search and was positively identified as the suspect driving the stolen vehicle by two witnesses.
  • 2:10 p.m.: Rape was reported on Santa Clara Avenue. 
  • 8:23 p.m.: A sex offense was reported on the Lincoln Avenue.
Tuesday, May 28
  • 8:33 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. Suspect took victim's car keys from her gym bag that was inside a locker at the gym. Suspect used the car keys to open victim's vehicle trunk. Suspect took victim's purse and used credit cards to make unauthorized purchases in Alameda.
  • 9:53 a.m.: A baby was reportedly not breathing in her crib. A police officer responded and was able to successfully resuscitate the baby. Read the full story here.
  • 10:59 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 200 block of Tipperary Lane. A suspect used a victim's checking account information to cash a counterfeit check
  • 12:57 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Eagle Avenue. A suspect kicked opened the front door a home, took coins and fled.
  • 5:48 p.m.: Assault with a weapon was reported on the 700 block of Eagle Avenue. Two suspects brandished a loaded firearm at a victim and threatened to shoot him.
