Police Log: $20K Phone Scam, CVS Burglary, Robbery on Mecartney

Plus lots of stolen cars, and shots fired at a Caroline Street apartment.

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log Jan. 15-19. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 15

Concealed weapon — Police arrested two men following a traffic stop shortly after midnight near the corner of Fernside Boulevard and Blanding Avenue. One of the men had an outstanding arrest warrant, while the other had a knife hidden in his shoe, police said.

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from the 300 block of Tideway Drive, the 1500 block of Buena Vista Avenue, the 1700 block of Jay Street and the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue.

Fraud — An Alameda woman reported that she was the victim of a phone scam. The woman sent $20,000 to $30,000 to India over the course of several months, police said.

Theft — Someone stole a video security camera from the Walgreen's store at 2300 South Shore Center.

THURSDAY, JAN. 16

Shots fired — Someone shot three times at a fourplex in the 1400 block of Caroline Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. Police said one projectile hit an awning on the building. 

FRIDAY, JAN. 17

Auto theft — A vehicle was stolen from the 1500 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

Commercial burglary — Someone used a vehicle to pull down a door at the CVS Pharmacy at 931 Marina Village Parkway. The burglar may have tried to break into an ATM machine near the front door of the store, police said.

Boat theft — Two boats and trailers were stolen from the Alameda Marina on Clement Avenue.

SATURDAY, JAN. 18

Robbery/shoplift — A 36-year-old man was arrested after he stole items from a 24-hour convenience store in the 600 block of Buena Vista Avenue and caused a clerk to fear for his safety, police said.

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from Pacific Marina and the 300 block of Park Street.

Vehicle break-ins — Thieves broke into three vehicles parked in the 100 block of Payot Court and into vehicles in the 1300 block of Ballena Boulevard, the 1500 block of St. Charles Street and the 200 block of Encounter Bay.

Home burglaries — in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue, someone removed a screen and broke an apartment window. In the 100 block of Cypress Street, a thief entered a residence through the rear door and stole three bottles of water.

Shoplift/robbery — Two young women "forcefully resisted" security officers who attempted to stop them after they left Nob Hill Foods, 2531 Blanding Ave., without paying for any of the merchandise they took, police said. Both were arrested.

SUNDAY, JAN. 19

Auto thefts — Vehicles were reported stolen from the 1400 block of Broadway and the 900 block of Shorepoint Court.

Armed robbery — A robber brandished a gun at two people on Mecartney Road about 3:15 a.m. and took their wallets before escaping in a vehicle.

DUI arrest — A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he walked away from an injury traffic collision, police said. The man was taken into custody shortly after 7:30 p.m. near the corner of Webster Street and Willie Stargell avenue. Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with complaints of pain. The collision blocked access to the Webster Street Tube for some time.

Assault with a deadly weapon — A 45-year-old man was arrested after he used a kitchen knife to attack a woman on Rosewood Way, police said. The woman received minor injuries. The man and woman are acquaintances, police said.
