Police Log: Missing Man Found, Traffic Violation Leads to Stolen Firearm Arrest, and Vehicle Burglaries

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from May 22 and 27. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Monday, May 27

  • 12:12 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 300 block of Midway Avenue. A suspect broke the window and took loss.
  • 10:14 a.m.: A missing person report was filed on Liberty Avenue. James "Jim" Ross suffers from dementia and is not allowed to drive. He was seen driving away from his residence. He was later located. Read the complete story here.
  • 2:28 p.m.: Burglary was reported on the 1100 block of Ballena Boulevard. A suspect broke into the business and fled with loss.
  • 5:48 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 2200 block of Shoreline Drive. A suspect broke into the victim's vehicle smashing out a window and taking the victim's purse.
  • 10:21 p.m.: A robbery was reported on the 1500 block of Benton Street.
    As the victim walked to his vehicle, two suspects approached him. One suspect demanded victim's property while exposing a handgun in his waistband.The suspect  took loss from victim and fled with the other suspect in a vehicle.
  • 10:11 p.m.: A robbery was reported on the 2100 block of Santa Clara Avenue. Suspects threatened to shoot victims if they did not give them their property. One suspect and victim physically struggled over victim's purse. Both suspects fled without loss.
Sunday, May 26
  • 6:15 p.m.: Commercial burglary was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. The arrested suspects had no money and empty backpacks. They concealed merchandise and exited the store without paying. They were detained by store security and turned over to police for burglary.
Saturday, May 25
  • 1:25 a.m.: Police arrested a suspect carrying a loaded firearm on the 2400 block of Encinal Avenue. The suspect was stopped for a traffic violation. There was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and the suspect admitted to being in possession of marijuana. During a search of the suspect's person, a loaded firearm was recovered. A records check revealed the firearm was stolen. The arrested was also found to be in possession of less than one ounce of suspected marijuana.
  • 10:47 a.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. Suspect physically resisted arrest.
  • 2:01 p.m.: Commercial burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Webster Street. A suspect gained entry into victim's storage unit and fled with loss.
  • 5:13 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 3100 block of Mecartney Road. Suspect broke car's window and took laptop computer from backseat.
  • 5:15 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 800 block of Marina Village Parkway. A suspect broke the victim's car window and stole a laptop. 
  • 5:15 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 2200 block of South Shore Center. A suspect was stopped by store security after concealing merchandise in her purse. She was put on citizen's arrest.
  • 6:07 p.m.: Vehicle burglary was reported on the 1700 block of Webster Street. A suspect broke a victim's window and took loss.
Friday, May 24
  • 8:17 a.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 800 block of Island Drive. A suspect took a store display shelf and left the store with the items without paying.
  • 10:09 a.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1800 block of Moreland Drive. A suspect kicked in a door of a victim's home, entered and stole a cell phone.
  • 2:16 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 2800 block of Marina Drive. A suspect kicked in a victim's front door, entered the residence and stole several items.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Shoplifting was reported on the 1400 block of Park Street.
Thursday, May 23
  • 8:21 a.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 900 block of Magnolia Drive. A suspect gained entry to victim's locked vehicle and took no loss. Suspect gained entry to another victim's car and took money.
  • 8:44 a.m.: Auto theft was reported on the 300 block of Harbor Light Road.
  • 9:42 a.m.: Child abuse was reported on Neptune Gardens Avenue. During an argument, suspect choked and hit victim causing superficial scratches to victim's body and swelling to his left eye.
  • 1:13 p.m.: A vehicle violation was reported on the 2400 block of Clement Avenue. A suspect was stopped for a vehicle code violation. Suspect fled while officers were making a second approach to the vehicle. Suspect led officers on a pursuit onto I-880 northbound before it was cancelled due to the danger posed to the public.
