Police: Recent Sexual Assault Reports 'Not a Danger to the Public'

A report of a rape at South Shore Center last week does not appear to represent a threat to public safety, police said.

Reports of two sexual assaults last week do not represent a threat to public safety, an Alameda Police Department spokesperson said Tuesday.

Both reports — one of a forcible rape at South Shore Center and one of a sexual assault in Coast Guard housing in Alameda — involve the same victim, Lt. Jill Ottaviano said.

Although police did not release details about the reports, Ottaviano said police believe there is no danger to the general public.

Both incidents were reported to the APD on Dec. 12. Alameda police are investigating the South Shore report, while the second incident is being handled by Coast Guard investigators, Ottaviano said.

In an unrelated incident reported the following day, Dec. 13, police have arrested a 29-year-old Burlingame man on suspicion of lewd and lascivious behavior with a person age 15 or younger, Ottaviano said.

The man is suspected of hugging and kissing an Alameda girl after connecting with her on a social media site and arranging to meet her in person.
