Robbers Eye Victim's Cell Phone, Man Violently Resists Police and a Nearly $7,000 Check Forgery

Incidents highlighted here were recorded in the Alameda Police Department log from March 25 to March 27. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Monday, March 25

  • 8:32 a.m.: Vandalism was reported on the 2000 block of Santa Clara Avenue. Suspects damaged the garden area at Henry Haight Elementary School.
  • 10:26 a.m.: Auto theft was reported ont he 1300 block of Bellena Block.
  • 10:40 a.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1600 block of Dayton Avenue. A suspect used a victim's personal information in attempt to use the victim's credit card.
  • 3:34 p.m.: A residential burglary was reported on the 1400 block of Sherman Street. A suspect attempted to break into the victim's home
  • 6:02 p.m.: A vehicle burglary was reported on the 1900 block of Lafayette Street. A suspect broke into a business' vehicle and took a booklet.
  • 8:18 p.m.: A person was robbed on the 300 block of Jack London Avenue. A victim was surrounded by three suspects. One demanded her belongings. One suspect attempted to remove the victim's cell phone from her front sweatshirt pocket, but fled without loss.

Tuesday, March 26

  • 2:42 a.m.: Alameda Police personnel assisted Alameda Fire Department with an apartment fire at 1203 Park Street. Click here for more information on this story here.
  • 8:14 a.m.: A commercial burglary was reported on the 1000 block of West Midway Avenue. An unknown suspect enterd a building and attempted to steal copper wire.
  • 12:20 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 2200 block of San Jose Avenue. A suspect used a victim's information to rent a house.
  • 12:36 p.m.: A suspect stole a package from victim's porch on the 1800 block of Main Street that contained five enlarged photographs.
  • 11:25 p.m.: A 41-year-old man was arrested on the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue for resisting police. He was contacted after he was observed acting erratic and attempting to walk in front of moving vehicles along Lincoln Avenue. He refused to obey verbal commands of officers and became aggressive towards officers upon contact. While officers attempted to detain him in handcuffs for his own safety, he violently resisted.

Wednesday, March 27

  • 10:01 a.m.: Forgery was reported on the 800 block of West Tower Avenue. A suspect stole 19 checks, endorsed them with the owner's name, and cashed them for $6,772.
  • 2:11 p.m.: Identity theft was reported on the 1200 block of Park Avenue. A suspect used a victim's personal information to open multiple credit card accounts and make unauthorized purchases online.
  • 10:17 p.m.: Grand theft was reported on the 700 block of Central Avenue. Two 18-year-old men were arrested. While at a local park, the two men took a victim's cell phone from her hand and fled the area. Both were later found by APD officers and positively identified by a witness as the responsible suspects. Both were taken into custody without incident and booked.
