Suspect in Orion Street Shooting Arrested

A Berkeley man was taken into custody Thursday evening in connection with the June 10 incident, Alameda police say.

Alameda police have arrested a suspect in a June 10 shooting in the 2700 block of Orion Street, the Alameda Police Department announced Friday.

A suspect was identifified and a search and arrest warrant was served at the man's Berkeley home the evening of June 14, the APD said. He has been taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The shooting apparently followed an argument that occurred when the victim asked a group of people in a neighboring apartment on Orion Street to quiet down, Lt. Ted Horlbeck said earlier this week. He said the suspect brandished a gun at the victim during at that time. A short time later, he said, the suspect confronted the other man in front of the victim's residence, pulled out a gun and fired, but did not hit the victim. The shooter fled in a vehicle, Horlbeck said.
