Two Women Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries When Aerosol Can Explodes at Crown Beach

An aerosol can placed close to a lit barbecue exploded, APD Capt. James Colburn said.

Two women suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday afternoon at Robert Crown Memorial State Beach when an aerosol can placed near a hot barbecue exploded, fire officials said.

The explosion was reported at 1:38 p.m. on the 600 block of Westline Drive, according to Alameda Fire Capt. James Colburn.

The women suffered "traumatic" injuries and received immediate medical care from firefighters, Colburn said. They were then were taken by air ambulance helicopter to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.
