Some San Francisco-bound passengers at Alameda's Main Street ferry terminal were apparently delayed Saturday because the ferry was already nearly full with riders who boarded at Jack London Square.
"The first ferry at 9 a.m. was full by the time it loaded in Oakland. Rejecting all Alameda passengers except those going to Angel Island," said a reader named Lucy who commented on Alameda Patch's article on weekend ferry service.
A San Francisco Bay Ferry spokeman said he didn't have specifics, but Saturday's first ferry — the "9 o'clock boat" scheduled to leave Alameda at 9:10 a.m. — was the only one that would provide riders with a direct connection to Angel Island ferry service leaving from San Francisco's Pied 41.
If the ferry crew felt that some Angel Island-bound passengers might be too far back in line to make it onto the 9:10 a.m. ferry, they would give those riders priority, said Ernest Sanchez.
He said passengers who missed the 9:10 ferry would then have to wait for the next departure from Alameda, scheduled for 9:40 a.m.
San Francisco Bay Ferry has 16 or 17 departures a day scheduled for this weekend, with ferries leaving every 30 to 40 minutes, he said.
"We're running four boats from Oakland/Alameda — normally it's one on weekends — and four from Vallejo," he said. "it's pretty much our whole fleet, except for one or two boats in drydock for repairs.
"It's probably going to be a record-breaking weekend," Sanchex said.
