Measure D Passes; Spencer, Tam, Kahn Win School Board; Ashcraft, Daysog Win City Council

School Board incumbents Trish Spencer and Niel Tam will be joined by candidate Barbara Kahn, who led the race Tuesday evening.

With early ballots in and precincts reported, Spencer led with 9,966 votes (or 21.34 percent of total votes), followed by Kahn with 7,907 votes (or 16.93 percent of votes) and Tam with 6,406 votes (or 13.72 percent of votes).

For Alameda City Council, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft comes on top with 8,364 votes (or 25.09 perecent of total votes). She was followed by Tony Daysog who had 6,016 votes (or 18.05 percent of total votes).

Stewart G. Chen, who came in as a close third with 5,640 votes (or 16.92 of total votes) will finish the remainder of Alameda Vice Mayor Rob Bonta's term, expiring in December 2014, if Bonta is elected for the 18th Assembly District seat.

Bonta is edging past opponent Abel Guillen in a close race. Bonta was at 50,028 votes (or 50.79 perecent of total votes) last night when all precincts were recorded.

Incumbents J. Michael McCormick and Board President Jordan Battani take the lead to keep their seats on the Alameda Health Care District Board. Since Chen replaces Bonta for the seat on city council, it will be up to the hospital board to find Chen's replacement on the Health Care District Board.

Measure D, which requires voter approval before City Council can sell or trade park land, passed with 15,618 votes (or 78.23 percent of total votes).

Alameda Auditor Kevin R. Kearney and Treasurer Kevin Kennedy both ran unopposed and keep their seats for another term.
