Would you like to meet, greet, and socialize informally with your elected and appointed officials over wine and appetizers instead of a meeting agenda?

Please join the League of Women Voters of Alameda (LWVA) for their annual “Meet Your Public Officials” (MYPO) reception and fundraiser from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Alameda Elks Lodge.

Tickets, which are tax-deductible, cost $10 per person. Light appetizers from local restaurants will be provided and wine (no-host bar) will be available. Attendees may also participate in the silent auction and raffle. All Alamedans—including children—are welcome.

MYPO will be in the newly renovated and wheelchair-accessible Rathskellar at the Alameda Elks Lodge—"the liveliest lodge in Elkdom"—at 2255 Santa Clara Ave., next to Alameda City Hall. The parking lot, elevator, and entrance to the basement-level Rathskellar are at the rear of the building.

"At Meet Your Public Officials, the League recognizes the contributions that our public officials make to the residents of Alameda," said said MYPO Chair and LWVA board member Alice Wilson-Fried. "For over 30 years we have offered this event so that community members can get to know their elected and appointed officials."

In MYPO’s relaxed atmosphere, Alamedans can mingle and speak informally with many local public officials who represent them. Every elected official who represents Alameda, every appointed member of the City of Alameda’s boards and commissions, and many senior city staff members have been invited to attend.

MYPO 2013 attendees will be able to bid on unique auction items or win raffle prizes including:

  • A gourmet ice cream cake-making class for two adults with pastry chef Henry Awayan at Tucker’s Ice Cream—followed by a cake-eating party for eight.
  • Gourmet dinners for six.
  • Fine wines, gift baskets, and a variety of gift certificates from local wineries, businesses, and restaurants—including services like golf lessons and beauty consultations.

Proceeds from the auction, raffle, and ticket sales support the LWVA’s community education and voter service programs throughout the year. The LWVA provides nonpartisan voter information and sponsors free community events such as candidate forums, Pros and Cons panels on ballot measures, and public issues forums. Tax-deductible $10 MYPO tickets may be purchased at the event or in advance, either from LWVA members or by mail (send a check to the LWVA at PO Box 1645, Alameda CA 94501).
