New Stop Signs Installed on Fourth Street

The intersections of Fourth Street at Santa Clara Avenue and at Lincoln Avenue are now controlled by stop signs in all four directions.

Alameda's Public Works has installed new stop signs at Lincoln Avenue and Fourth Street and at Santa Clara Avenue and Fourth Street, according to an Alameda Police Department announcement.

These two intersections are now controlled with stop signs in all four directions.

"Please be careful when traveling through these areas as motorists may not immediately recognize the changes," says Sgt. Ron Simmons of the APD Traffic Division.

Do the new stop signs make these intersections safer? Tell us in the comments section below.

They make my commute a little longer, that's for sure :) I liked taking Santa Clara down the length of the island to the Ferry Terminal because of fewer stops. When you can only go 25mph, this is a big deal!

Wow, how many times have I seen pedestrians (including myself) nearly hit by drivers speeding down Santa Clara between Webster and 4th Street. They even fly through the pedestrian cross walk at 6th and Santa Clara. Slow down, you'll make your ferry. (its better than being charged with vehicular manslaughter)

Oh SSUUURREE you put them there AFTER i move. that intersection from 3rd to 5th was notorious for DECADES when i lived in the little white house by the corner of 4th. high school speeders from my alum of encinal always going WAY too damn fast during lunch hour and after school. its about damn time this had been done

It'd make a much bigger difference if they put signs or even a light in at Central at the 5-way 3rd/Taylor intersection at the corner of the high school; as it is now, people speed down Central, it's almost blind coming up 3rd, and of course there are tons of kids out walking and being dropped off/picked up several times a day.

@ Michelle I don't speed. So we're all settled. You'll talked to the other drivers of Santa Clara Ave, then?

last week when the new striping was being done it looked like they were finally going to try and make that intersection a little safer, they had marked out some new cross walk and narrowed the intersection a little but its all gone now. gwen your are so right about that intersection, I live several doors down from it. I just avoid it during school.

The blocks on Santa Clara west of Webster are very long. From Fifth Street to Webster is a 1/4 mile with no stop signs. Glad to see the stop signs at Fourth.

Can we resurface Harbor Bay Parkway now?
