Oakland City Attorney Russo Picked for City of Alameda's Top Spot, Local News Site Reports

The Island is reporting that at least one other top candidate was informed he was out and that John Russo is in.

The Island news site is reporting this morning, based on an unnamed source, that is the council's top choice for Alameda City Manager.

The other top two candidates were widely reported to be current  and former Alameda City Manager David Brandt. According to The Island, both received notice over the weekend they were not selected. 

The  since Interim City Attorney on Dec. 28, just after a new council .

City staff and a sub-committee of  council members then to find a new, permanent city manager, which the city has been without since Debra Kurita stepped down in February 2009.

Gallant, who was initially hired as acting finance director, took over the city manager job on an interim basis in April 2009.

She has since filed suit against the city, claiming she suffered emotional distress, financial loss and after she was placed on leave.

Alameda's former City Attorney, Teresa Highsmith, who was also put on paid administrative leave, has also filed suit against the city.
