Planning Board: Changes to North Park Street Projects on Monday's Agenda

The Alameda Planning Board will consider proposed changes to two North Park Street projects Monday night, as the lineup of potential tenants shifts.

Monday night, the Alameda Planning Board will consider proposed changes to two major projects on the city's former "auto row," the northern stretch of Park Street.

At 1600 Park St. (at Tilden Way), the former Good Chevrolet site, Walgreens has replaced CVS Pharmacy as the anchor tenant for the commercial development. Walgreens and the property owner are requesting approval for design changes — the biggest being an alteration to the "drive-through" window.

The new plans would relocate the drive-through window to the east side of the building and eliminate a building addition.

At 1700-1718 Park St., the former Cavanaugh Motors site, developer William Phua is asking for approval for the following changes:

—Removal of special conditions for parking, since the applicant has purchased an adjacent parcel of land and plans an expanded parking lot.

—For the center building (the former auto showroom), approval to lease the front portion to a wellness center and the rear portion to, possibly, a brewery, winery or as artists' studios.

—For the new single-story building at 1718 Park St., approval for a beer or wine tasting room or tavern, with outdoor seating and the option of staying open until 1 a.m. City planning staff recommends a 10 p.m. closing for any outdoor seating area.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers, 2263 Santa Clara Ave. You may see the complete meeting agenda and related staff reports on the City of Alameda website here.
