The Alameda Planning Board will hold a public hearing tonight, Monday, on whether to allow a flea market to continue on Saturdays at the .
The flea market has been operating on Saturdays this month under a "special event" permit. Now the board is considering a conditional use permit that would allow it to continue on a regular basis, provided it meets certain conditions recommended by city planning staff.
Those recommendations include no activity such as setting up and taking down booths before 7 a.m.; a ban on amplified sound (acoustic music would be allowed); and regular "litter patrols" during and after the flea market's hours of operation.
Also on the board's agenda:
- A status report on design improvements to the planned Target store at Alameda Landing.
- A proposed resolution denying an application to sell alcohol at the convenience store at the at 1716 Webster St.
- A review of planning staff’s response to the Regional Sustainable Communities Strategy – Jobs Housing Connection Scenario.
