Rally to Protect California Shelter Animals March 13

Alameda County Supervisors Wilma Chan and Nate Miley are holding a rally this Tuesday, March 13, in front of the County of Alameda Administration Building at 1221 Oak Street, Oakland at 10 a.m. to save the Hayden Law.

The Hayden Law ensures that California shelters keep stray or abandoned animals for a minimum of 4 to 6 days before euthanizing, and provide all animals with necessary and prompt vet care. California Governor Jerry Brown has proposed repealing the law.

Miley and Chan will be addressing the crowd at the rally, arguing that California dogs and cats deserve humane treatment, even in tough budget times..

At 10:30 a.m. those attending the rally will proceed to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors chambers on the fifth floor of the building in room 512 for a board meeting with public comments. A resolution will be presented at the meeting to urge the Governor and State Legislature not to eliminate life-saving mandates for lost and stray animals.

The public is welcome to attend either part of this event. County residents and animal activists are expected to attend the rally with pets, including shelter and rescue animals.
