Reader's question:
Can you tell me why the High St. Bridge is slated for closure in the middle of the day on July 17th? It's on the digital signs at both entrances to the bridge. I checked CalTrans, Alameda City home page and a general Google search but no answers. I’m guessing movie or impressive boat parade since all seismic is completed. (Asked over the weekend.)
Alameda Patch's answer:
The High Street Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while Caltrans personnel are doing an inspection. Inspectors will also be there on July 12, but it doesn't appear that the bridge will close on that day.
Caltrans inspections are also coming up at the Park Street Bridge and the Miller-Sweeney (Fruitvale) Bridge, but Patch wasn't able to determine over the weekend if they will have closures. We'll check during the work week and post the information if closures are planned.
Meanwhile, the Alameda bridge leaf of the Park Street Bridge will be closed to all marine vessel traffic from Monday, July 9, through Wednesday, July 18, for electrical repairs and operational testing. The Oakland leaf of the bridge will remain operable for any vessel traffic.
