Alameda Point Cleanup Meeting March 8

First 2012 Alameda Point cleanup meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 8.

The Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) will meet this Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall West at Alameda Point. This will be the first meeting of 2012, following the abrupt announcement by the Navy last October that the monthly RAB meetings were being cut to quarterly meetings. Budget cuts were cited as the reason.

At Thursday's meeting the board will hear reports by Navy project managers on the work going on at 1) the Seaplane Lagoon, 2) at the nearby dock area where the maritime ships are located, and 3) at the highly contaminated area known as OU-2B near the East Gate entrance.

The Seaplane Lagoon and the dock area involve dredging. The OU-2B area faces a multitude of challenges in remediating groundwater, as well as soil. It is this area where the city recently said it is willing to restrict residential dwellings to the second floor and above due to the expense and time that would be required to achieve unrestricted cleanup standards.

The meeting address is 950 West Mall Square. Enter at the rear of the building on West Midway. The public is encouraged to attend.
